How does Chiropractic work

How does Chiropractic work?

A pair of spinal nerves exits between each vertebra. Each one of the 31 pairs of nerves comes from the spinal cord, which runs the length of the spine and extends outward to form a complex network which ultimately supplies and influences every organ, tissue and cell in the body.

Chiropractic treatment centres on spinal biomechanics and how a specific spinal adjustment will restore (sagittal and coronal) alignment and coupled segmental motion resulting in a balanced spine with optimised function. Chiropractic care works on the premise that the central nervous system and the spine are directly related.

It is a chiropractor’s task to evaluate the biomechanical structure of the spine, to ensure that each one of the individual vertebra are moving freely and are not displaced or fixed in anyway. Any such displacement or jammed vertebra can cause the spinal nerve that exits from the intervertebral foramen/opening, to become irritated either through direct pressure or through indirect stimulation/irritation. Therefore any problem in any one of the vertebral joints can affect the related part of your nervous system, which in turn can lead to symptoms as pain in the back or neck as well as many other spinal problems.

Chiropractic is highly advised for babies to assess for any spinal problems, due partly to the trauma of the birthing process and positioning in utero during development.

Chiropractic has shown to relax muscular tension, improve sleep, can reduce colic symptoms and can improve breast feeding outcomes in new-born’s. Spinal manipulation in infants is gentle and safe.
